Great Basin Rendezvous

The NMEC Great Basin Rendezvous (GBR) is held in mid September each year

The GBR is a chance for the NMEC geologists, drillers, consultants and their families to gather for activities and camping in a beautiful setting and enjoy the Nevada outdoors.

The Eleventh event was held held Sept 8-10, 2023 and marked a return to Camp Lamoille in the beautiful, glaciated Ruby Mountains metamorphic core complex near Elko, Nevada. The area was devastated in a 2018 fire that destroyed the Whipple Lodge building and scorched the camp. For the previous three years the GBR was moved to the Wilson family’s Royal Peacock Opal Mine in the Virgin Valley where Julie Wilson (mine owner) spoiled us.

Although the Whipple Lodge was consumed in the fire, the original stone foundation and chimney survived to support the building of the current open-air pavilion with ten tables. A restroom/shower house is newly remodeled with ADA-accessible toilets. There are plenty camping areas for tents and there are 14 RV spaces with power and water hookups.

Typically each year there are field trips, hikes, lots of food, and a live band to entertain on one night. Typically thanks to sponsorship much of the major dinners and breakfast are sponsored as well as 8-10 students get free event access

Registration typically starts in July
